ESP Sells Over 500 Enhanced Vehicle Emissions Testing Units; Jiffy Lube, Firestone Make Major Purchases

AUSTIN, Texas--April 17, 2002--As part of the new AirCheckTexas Program, Environmental Systems Products Holdings, Inc. (ESP) announced today that it has sold more than 500 of its SystemOne(TM) units in the greater Houston/Galveston and Dallas/Fort Worth areas.
"The recent sale of 50 units to Jiffy Lube and 50 units to Firestone have put us over the 500 mark," said Mike Chambrello, president and CEO of ESP. "Our customers tell us they made a decision based on quality equipment backed up by a dedicated service and support staff. We are pleased to be part of the AirCheckTexas Program and look forward to helping meet the clean air goals of the State."
Texas recently adopted new inspection and maintenance (I/M) rules aimed at improving air quality. To participate as a certified inspection station, test and repair facilities must be fully operational with new, certified equipment by the May 1st deadline. The Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission (TNRCC) certified ESP as the first company authorized to supply emissions testing equipment and customer services for the Texas I/M program. Four (4) million motorists are required to undergo emissions testing every year.
"We tested ESP equipment in a side-by-side comparison with a competitor," stated Bill Givens, Director of Emissions Testing, with Jiffy Lube International. "ESP's SystemOne(TM) is our choice. It works, it's reliable and, as we know from our longstanding relationship with ESP, the service is dependable."
Firestone considered all possible providers and chose ESP's SystemOne(TM) equipment as well. Bob Armstrong, Firestone's Purchasing Supervisor, Automotive Equipment and Supplies, said, "We want to provide a quick and accurate emissions test to our customers, ESP's equipment will help us do that. The quality of their equipment and service made ESP the best choice. In fact, the partnership is going so well in Texas that we plan to begin using their equipment in other states."
Hazel Barbour, Mobile Source Section Manager of TNRCC stated, "We are pleased that two nationally recognized companies have committed to the program. The participation of fifty Jiffy Lube and fifty Firestone locations in the AirCheckTexas program will make it more convenient for motorists."
"Test and repair facilities in Texas have a tremendous business opportunity to service the millions of motorists that must undergo emissions inspections this year," added ESP president and CEO Mike Chambrello. "We look forward to working directly with test and repair facilities to ensure a seamless, timely transition to the enhanced emissions inspection program."

ESP, headquartered in East Granby, Connecticut, is the world's leading full-service provider of vehicle emissions testing solutions to domestic and international markets. ESP is the technology leader and quality supplier of vehicle emissions test equipment with more than 45% of the U.S. decentralized equipment market, which consists of over 10,000 units performing more than 12 million tests per year.
