MSC.Software Helps Hayes-Lemmerz Dramatically Reduce Design Time and Materials Costs on Aluminum Parts

    SANTA ANA, Calif.--April 17, 2002--

Automotive Supplier Uses MSC.Acumen and MSC.Fatigue to Automate
Durability Analysis, Saving Months of Design Time and Reducing
Materials Cost on Millions of Parts

MSC.Software Corp. , the leading global provider of simulation software, services and systems, and Northville, MI-based Hayes-Lemmerz, today announced that Hayes-Lemmerz was able to significantly decrease design time and materials costs for automotive wheel assemblies by utilizing MSC.Acumen and MSC.Fatigue to perform durability analysis.
"Simulation software allows automotive suppliers and manufacturers to design longer lasting, more reliable products, which can equate to a return on investment of millions of dollars in maintenance and warranty costs over the lifetime of a part or product," said Frank Perna, chairman and chief executive officer of MSC.Software. "Our work with Hayes-Lemmerz is an excellent example of the ways we can help customers automate computer analysis and realize a significant return on their investment in simulation software, services and systems."
"With simulation we can design our products as light as possible and be fairly sure they will pass the tests," said Khosrow Namdarian, senior structural analyst, Hayes-Lemmerz. "The advantage is that if you make 4 million of just one aluminum part per year and can save a quarter of a pound of aluminum per part, that adds up to one million pounds of aluminum saved in materials costs on just one part. We have realized just this type of savings."
Hayes-Lemmerz was able to reduce design time and materials costs on cast components for automotive wheel assemblies by combining MSC.Fatigue with MSC.Acumen, a process automation tool that customizes and automates design and simulation processes so that users can perform analysis quickly and easily.
MSC.Fatigue is developed in close cooperation with nCode, MSC.Software's fatigue and durability partner. nCode International, Ltd., Sheffield, England, is the world's leader in fatigue and durability services and software.
