Kivera Joins Location Interoperability Forum to Contribute to the Advancement of Location-based Services

    OAKLAND, Calif.--April 15, 2002--

Membership Facilitates Kivera's Collaboration with Industry Leaders Motorola, Ericsson, and Nokia

Kivera, the standard for dependable location-based services (LBS), today announced that it has joined the Location Interoperability Forum (LIF), a global, open industry forum founded by Motorola, Ericsson and Nokia to advance the worldwide deployment of LBS.
As a member of LIF, Kivera will help standardize interfaces for third-party application developers and assist in defining parameters for interoperability and integration of LBS. Kivera and LIF will work together to develop global interoperability standards among mobile positioning systems and advance initiatives to protect the privacy and security of consumer location information.
"Kivera has a proven track record of solving the tough problems associated with LBS applications," said Clay Collier, president and CEO of Kivera. "We believe that industry initiatives, such as LIF, will be key for accelerating the adoption and integration of successful location-based solutions. As interoperability becomes standard, Kivera will remain focused on providing a reliable LBS platform ensuring end-users accept these services as both safe and valuable."
Kivera's commitment to industry standards and continuous growth of customer adoption is substantiated by its recent acceptance of Frost & Sullivan's 2001 Market Engineering Award for Technology Leadership in LBS.

    About the Location Interoperability Forum

The Location Interoperability Forum, a global industry initiative, was formed jointly by Ericsson, Motorola and Nokia in September 2000 with the purpose of developing and promoting common and ubiquitous solutions for Mobile Location Services (MLS). The LIF recommendations will be network protocol and positioning technology independent. Location-based services will allow mobile users to receive personalized and lifestyle-oriented services relative to their geographic location. Mobile Location Services are predicted to become one of the most compelling value-added services, allowing wireless appliance users to combine mobility with the Internet. More than 100 organizations have already joined LIF. For more information, visit www.locationforum.org.
