JEREMY MAYFIELD (No. 19 Dodge Dealers Dodge Intrepid R/T
"We got through that last deal some way, I'm not sure how. It was a pretty
tough day. The guys worked hard and we kept our brakes on it. We did the
best we could with what we had. We're happy with it."
JOHN ANDRETTI (No. 43 Cheerios Dodge Intrepid R/T)
"Bam, we didn't have any warning, and it's really unfortunate because the
guys have done a great job for us. The Mike Ege Racing Engines have been
great. This is the first failure we've had. It just came at an inopportune
moment. We had a great car. If we could have gotten up front, I think we
could have taken off, but they all say that."
JIMMY SPENCER (No. 41 Target Dodge Intrepid R/T)
"They said we had a man over the wall too quick, and that cost us a lap. We
cut a left rear tire down, and that cost us two more laps. We made two of
them back up and never did get the other one back. Ricky Craven says I was
holding him up, so he spun me out. I didn't see it that way. Then afterwards
I passed him on the outside and he got me again. We still ended up the first
car one lap down, but I really feel like we had an opportunity to win today.
Track position was critical and we never could get track position back. I
just said (to Ricky Craven) no problem. I agree with whatever you believe. I
let them make the rules. I just play by them."
STERLING MARLIN (No. 40 Coors Light Dodge Intrepid R/T)
"We just missed it. The chassis was off a little bit and
the gear was off a little bit. We were
pretty good in Happy Hour yesterday, but it was cool.
We never got going right today. Matt
Kenseth had another good run. We ran with him and
Jarrett a lot today. Everybody was so
close it was hard to pass."
HUT STRICKLIN (No. 23 Hills Bros Coffee Dodge Intrepid R/T)
"That was a pretty good run for us. We finally were able to
put it all together and show a
little bit of what we were capable of. We had some good
luck today. The guys gave me a
great car and the pit stops were awesome. Everybody did
their job. Every week you can see
everybody on this team getting more confident in what
we're doing. It's just starting to
show. Right now I'm tickled to death. I wish we could
have finished better. I caved in the left
door and got some carbon monoxide. I couldn't breathe.
We got that last caution and I got
some fresh air and was able to go again. It was a good
day. It's something to build on and I
feel like we're getting there. I'm ready to go to
Talladega. Hopefully this will give us
momentum going there."
WARD BURTON (No. 22 Caterpillar Dodge Intrepid R/T)
"We had problems getting the car right today. At first, I needed a 50-acre
field to turn it in. We kept working on it and it got better as we went
along. We stayed out one time and got to the front, but we weren't able to
stay there. That was a decent finish, but we were hoping to have a better
run."
BILL ELLIOTT (No. 9 Dodge Dealers Dodge Intrepid R/T)
"We just had trouble with our brakes. We fixed it, but we could never get
our laps back. I feel bad for the guys. We qualified well, and I felt like
we had a top five car, but we didn't get a top five finish."
KYLE PETTY (No. 45 Sprint Dodge Intrepid R/T)
"Somebody spun the 55 and we were just all trying to dodge. The 55 came back
down the race track and caught me in the rear. I looped around and got into
him and then Johnny got into him. There just wasn't anywhere to go. It was
just one of them deals. We stayed on the lead lap all day and we ran decent.
We weren't great, but it was another good finish. I can't complain. Our
stuff is really coming together."
