SUNDAYS AT THE SPEEDWAYSUNDAYS AT THE SPEEDWAY:

SUNDAYS AT THE SPEEDWAY:
ALWAYS ACTION-PACKED - Take, for example, APRIL 14…

Irwindale , Calif. - - For a racing complex that has made its reputation on NASCAR racing every Saturday night at 7PM from March through November there sure are a lot of great racing events taking place on Sundays at Irwindale Speedway.
Take, for example this coming Sunday, April 14 at Irwindale: While the clean-up crews are still washing down the grandstands from Saturday night's big True Value Hardware NASCAR races the Swift Showoff Car Show and Street Legal Import Drag Races will be well underway on the east end of the property.
The second such event put on by the Swift Car Club the show promises to be an Import, Truck, SUV, and Motorcycle Supershow with wild entries in over 30 distinct divisions and tall trophies that start at three feet for third place and grow to six feet for the first placers in each category. The word on the street is that you better have a convertible or at least a sunroof if you're planning on winning your category at the "Showoff" on Sunday! GA Tickets are only $10 with show vehicle registration pegged at $30 pre-event and $35 at the "door" on Sunday. Drag racers will pay $20 to get in and race on the new Irwindale Dragstrip 1/8-Mile Street Legal NHRA 'strip. Roll-in is set for 6AM until 9AM and the show will be open to the public from 11AM until 5PM. (Drag Racers roll in at 8AM and will begin competition at 10AM). (Swift Showoff Information direct line: 562-789-8816 or 626-712-7897)

While all that chrome, carbon fiber, and competition is taking place in the main parking lot at the east end of the Speedway, the Los Angeles Kart Club will be busy on the western end staging the second racing meet of their nine-event 2002 racing season on the infield of the Irwindale half-mile oval.
The "LAKC" is new to Irwindale, but the concept is steeped in the racing tradition of the area … Great Karting competition for the youngest to whatever age you want to be. Inexpensive real racing in the vehicles that so many of today's top drivers took their first racing rides in.
Tickets to the LAKC races are available to the public and their paddock area is part of the deal. Fans may stroll though and get a close-up and personal look at these "mini-but-mighty" racing machines as their family teams get them ready to race. More information about Karts and Karting may be obtained on the LAKC website (www.lakc.org). The gates for the exciting Karting experience at Irwindale open early at 7AM, with racing underway by noon. These are very friendly and enthusiastic racers, who are always pleased to share any information about the sport that they have with interested newcomers. Fans are invited to stop by and see what we mean. Here's the LAKC 2002 schedule:
