ZETEC CHAMPIONSHIP INSTITUTES OPEN QUALIFYING AT OVALS

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. (April 11, 2002) – The Formula Ford 2000 Zetec
Championship today announced new qualifying procedures for all oval races.

Beginning with the traditional Memorial Day weekend event at Indianapolis
Raceway Park, the Zetec Championship will no longer use the single-car
format for qualifying at oval races. Qualifying for oval races will now
consist of one open half-hour session, in which the fastest time will earn
the pole position. In the event of a doubleheader, two races, the qualifying
session will be used to determine the starting positions for the first race.
Starting positions for the second race will be the order of finish in the
first race.

“This new format is sure to generate some excitement during oval race
qualifying,” said Formula Ford 2000 Championship owner Jon Baytos. “When its
been used in the past, fans have witnessed some great wheel-to-wheel
competition, as the drivers battled for the pole. The open session format
also allows drivers to come in and make adjustments to the car, key to
learning how to drive on an oval.”

The 2002 Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship continues with Rounds Three
and Four at Mosport International Raceway, May 18-19, as part of the
Victoria Day Trans-Am Weekend.
