NSC President Joins Workplace Safety Summit
Itasca, IL - National Safety Council (NSC) President Alan C. McMillan joins a high-level group of business executives, labor union leaders, and others interested in workplace safety at the Second Annual Workplace Safety Summit on Thursday, April 11 at the Center for Business and Public Policy at Georgetown University.
The goal of the Summit involving safety and health advocates, government officials and academics is to build on last year*s successful conference, by sustaining and deepening a national dialogue on improving workplace safety. Working together on the nation*s workplace safety problem, its causes, and possible solutions, participants will discuss key issues surrounding workplace safety and begin to develop some practical solutions. The Summit will also provide opinion leaders with solid, impartial information about workplace safety from academic experts.
*It is possible for all stakeholders to work together to bring about a cultural shift to achieve the highest levels of worker health and safety in the United States,* said McMillan,* but it will take a major commitment from America*s corporate leaders to make safety a value within their organizations.*
Summit participants will be provided with progress reports on initiatives that have been pursued by stakeholders since the first Workplace Safety Summit held just one year ago. The reports will cover initiatives such as the formation of working groups made up of dedicated leaders, the development of a national declaration on workplace safety, and the creation of the Center for Business and Public Policy at Georgetown University, the nation*s first business school institute primarily dedicated to workplace safety issues.
The National Safety Council is a not-for-profit, nongovernmental public service organization dedicated to protecting life and promoting health. NSC members represent over 37,500 business and labor organizations, schools, public agencies, private groups and individuals.
