DriveOne Launches Life-Saving Program COMMAND: Personalized Vehicle Control

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J., April 8, 2002 - Loss of vehicle control is a leading cause of crashes, especially single vehicle crashes, representing over 40% of all severe crashes. ``The proliferation of vehicle types, combined with inadequate training and inexperience in vehicle dynamics and safe driving techniques leaves drivers ill-prepared,'' says Sebastian Giordano, CEO of DriveOne (formerly Top Driver), the nation's premier driver training company.

DriveOne has responded by introducing its newest program, entitled COMMAND: Personalized Vehicle Control. ``COMMAND helps drivers master vehicle dynamics, training drivers in a controlled environment and exposing them to the unique handling and performance characteristics, while driving their own vehicle. Drivers learn tracking, speed knowledge and control, maneuvering skills, vehicle positioning, visual and psychomotor techniques and skid and crash avoidance. COMMAND puts drivers in control by reinforcing the skills necessary to avoid potentially dangerous habits and situations that contribute to crashes,'' continued Giordano.

``The course also addresses attitudinal factors and misconceptions: many drivers believe that by driving a larger vehicle, it makes them safer, so they tend to drive more aggressively; however, larger vehicles generally require longer stopping distances and drivers need to be aware of weight distribution.''

The three-hour course, developed by Ms. Trish Johnson, DriveOne's Director of Training, is benefiting corporations and consumers. Vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death in the workplace and contribute to significant insurance and fringe benefit costs. ``For corporations, COMMAND is cost-effective and the results are immediate. Meanwhile, of particular concern are new drivers. Over 60% of teen crashes are single vehicle crashes, which means new drivers are having trouble controlling their vehicle. COMMAND is one example of how DriveOne offers programs that go well beyond existing state requirements,'' said Johnson.

Giordano says, ``Vehicles have specific design and performance characteristics and most drivers do not understand how to drive them properly. COMMAND is a real eye opener. The program proves that there are differences in driving a car, minivan, SUV, a pickup or any other vehicle. COMMAND is a challenging program that enables drivers to experience the limitations and capabilities of their particular vehicle while dramatically improving their driving skills.''
