WOODSIDE AND TEAM WALKER MOTORSPORTS
NOTCH WIN AT MESA MARIN
April 6, 2002 (Valencia, Calif.) - Sean Woodside and Team Walker Motorsports
notched their first win for the 2002 season in tonight's Featherlite
Southwest West Series, NASCAR Touring Rialto Concrete Products 125 at Mesa
Marin Raceway.
Tonight's win was the first in a NASCAR touring series level event for team
owners Mike and Donna Walker.
Woodside's eighth-place qualifying effort landed him a start from the pole
position due to the inversion of the eight fastest cars. The Southwest
Series inverts the first six or eight cars in the starting lineup, based on
a draw determined by the fastest qualifier.
Woodside led the first two laps of the race, but relinquished his lead to
the 10 car of Nick Joanides. He maintained a close second-place running
position, and then easily retook the lead from Joanides on lap 58.
Woodside held off attempts for the lead by Joanides until M.K. Kanke passed
Joanides on a restart on lap 77. Woodside easily maintained a solid five-car
lead over Kanke throughout the remaining laps of the race, and sailed to a
first-place finish.
"It's really fun to drive a racecar when it runs that well," Woodside said.
"The team gave me an excellent car. It was a good, solid team effort, and my
thanks go to everyone on the team."
Woodside continued, "I should also thank our team's new crew chief, Mike
Harvick, whose work has had a very positive effect on our operation."
Harvick began working with Team Walker Motorsports in late-February.
"I'm very proud of the entire team," said Mike Walker. "I want to thank each
and every one of them individually for the job they've done. They deserve
this win as much as Woodside, my mother and I do. Hopefully we'll be able to
carry this momentum into the next race, as well as through the rest of the
season."
The Rialto Concrete Products 125 will be televised on the SPEED Channel on
Monday, April 8, 2002 at 8:00 p.m. EST.
