Visteon Brings IBOC Technology to Broadcast Industry
DEARBORN, Mich., April 5 -- Audio broadcast technology is undergoing a revolutionary change and Visteon can deliver cost-effective solutions to improve the quality of automotive broadcast reception. Visteon will demonstrate leading edge single-box radios to support the future of (AM/FM) radio at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) conference in iBiquity's booth April 6 - 11 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Band-On-Channel (IBOC) technology and Visteon's MACH(R) Digital Signal Processing (DSP) will provide a cost-effective solution in the automotive market. Today, radio broadcasts in the United States use analog signals. Radio broadcasters are now preparing for the advent of IBOC technology. The combination of IBOC and Visteon's MACH® DSP will bring digital signal radio into the automotive environment, and promises to provide digital quality audio for both AM and FM broadcasts. The combination of digital broadcasting and Visteon technologies provides the additional opportunity to transmit and utilize wireless data for a variety of consumer applications. The consumer applications could include station and program content, stock and news information, local traffic and weather.
In August of 2000, Visteon announced an agreement with iBiquity Digital Corporation that could expand deployment of Visteon's MACH® DSP technology and result in faster implementation of digital radio broadcasting capability in North America. The technology is market ready and, depending upon implementation, could appear as original equipment in an automobile as early as 2004. As part of Visteon's strategic alliance with iBiquity, Visteon developed a working original equipment quality model radio using iBiquity digital AM and FM broadcast technology.
``This is a prime example of the strategic alliances and partnership agreements we are forming to support advancements in audio systems,'' said John Kill, Vice President of Product Development, Visteon Corporation. ``Visteon is taking advantage of its DSP technology and leadership position as the world's largest manufacturer of radio head units to pave the way for the next generation of automotive audio systems.''
Visteon previously announced an ownership stake in iBiquity Digital Corporation.
