ACDelco Employees Support U.S. Troops Abroad

Groveport, Ohio- ACDelco Parts Distribution Center employees collected everything from candles to cash to send to U.S. troops in Afghanistan. Freedom is not Free is the theme for a ceremony that will take place at noon, Wed., April 10, 2002 at the ACDelco PDC. Sergeant Major Wilbur V. Adams Jr., U.S. Army Space Missile Defense Command, Arlington, Va. will be the guest speaker.

Following the September 11, 2001 tragedy the ACDelco facility put together a strategy to make a difference. The ACDelco facility is made up of salaried and UAW Local 969 employees. Some of the employees are veterans.

"Employees are sorting, boxing and packing all of the items for shipment. A local package supplier has donated the shipping containers and the ACDelco PDC will ship everything to Afghanistan," said Lisa Veneziano, PDC manager.

"We're proud of everyone's efforts in rallying around our troops, everyone has been collecting money all month to purchase items to send" said Tom Knox, shop chairman UAW Local 969. "We've collected and purchased everything from DVD movies, pocket games (e.g. Solitaire, Yahtzee, etc.) to folding chairs and microwaves for our troops to use as they protect our freedom," added Knox.

Community dignitaries and leaders from the city of Columbus and township of Groveport plan to attend the ceremony on Wednesday. A special fund raising luncheon will take place following the ceremony sponsored by the local National Guard Family Support Group STARC (State Area Command).
