Volkswagen Reports Best March Ever for Jetta and Passat
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., April 2 -- Volkswagen of America, Inc. reported sales of 31,551 new cars for the month of March compared to last year's figure of 30,618, an increase of 3 percent.
For the year so far, Volkswagen is on track with 2001's record pace with total sales of 75,035 cars, a slight increase over the same period in 2001 when the number was 75,027.
Volkswagen's two top-selling models, the Jetta and Passat, established record March results. The German automaker sold 13,579 Jetta sedans and wagons in March, versus 12,810 last year, an increase of 6 percent. The Passat recorded sales of 9,259 versus 8,226, up 12.6 percent.
Volkswagen's Golf model also enjoyed a strong March with sales of 2,343 versus 2001's mark of 2,299, up 1.9 percent.
