Ford Tire Recall Ends Sunday
Detroit News: A costly chapter in the history of Ford Motor Co. closes Sunday when the automaker ends a $3-billion recall of millions of Firestone Wilderness AT tires. Since last May, Ford has paid to replace nearly 11 million Firestone Wilderness AT tires equipped on Ford, Lincoln and Mercury sport-utility vehicles and pickup trucks. "All the owners have been notified. So we don't think there's much more out there," Ford spokesman Ken Zino said. In a related matter, the president of Japan's Bridgestone Corp., which owns the Firestone brand, said Thursday it would take three to four years to fully restore business ties with Ford. The tire company ended its historic relationship with Ford last May as the two companies blamed each other in the wake of the tire controversy.
