VISTEON SUPPORTS THE AUTOMAKERS AT NEW YORK INTERNATIONAL AUTOMOBILE SHOW
Amid the glitz and glamour on the floor of the 2002 New York International
Automobile Show, Visteon Corporation is helping its automotive
customers shine bright with exciting new products and technologies, offering
consumers exactly what they want - vehicles with superior quality and
craftsmanship, inside and out.
Visteon is working behind the scenes to supply automakers with systems that
meet the high standards that consumers have come to expect. In fact,
Visteon supplies more than 60 different types of products and systems to 11
different manufacturers on more than 40 different vehicles for the 2003
model year.
As you make your way through this year's Show, whether it's on press days
(March 27-28) or public days (March 29 - April 7), be sure to notice a few
of the ways in which Visteon supports its customers.
Chevrolet, Oldsmobile and Pontiac/GMC
Trailblazer, Bravada, Envoy - Visteon's DVD Rear Seat Entertainment System
is available on the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer, 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada and
Motor Trend's 2002 SUV of the Year - the GMC Envoy.
Today, rear seat passengers have the ability to enjoy their favorite movie
or play DVD/video games as they travel. This DVD Rear Seat Entertainment
System features wireless headphones, with independent volume control, and an
overhead-mounted, drop-down seven-inch screen, ensuring comfortable viewing
by mid and rear seat passengers. A compact, wireless remote control allows
the rear seat passengers to control the system.
Ford
Mustang - Visteon supplies its MACH* 1000 Audio System and MACH* MP3 Music
System to Ford Motor Company's 2002 Mustang sports car.
Visteon's MACH* 1000 Audio System is a high-performance sound system that
maximizes decibel value. The system provides 1000-watts of performance with
an extremely high sound pressure level that actually can be felt with
extremely low distortion.
Visteon's MACH* MP3 Music System combines traditional compressed file
playback technology, and efficient memory storage to create truly flexible
audio, capable of integrating all sources of audio use for the home and in
the vehicle. The system's 650-megabyte memory capacity allows consumers the
convenience of 10 hours of personalized music on one CD. Additionally, the
system features anti-shock, fast-forward and full-disc shuffle modes and a
"MACH* Track," that enables listeners to quickly scan through 10 hours of
music.
Thunderbird - Visteon is supplying nearly 50 systems and components for the
all-new 2002 Ford Thunderbird, including the vehicle's cockpit, driver
information, audio, chassis and climate systems. Additionally, Visteon was
selected as the climate systems integrator for the vehicle.
Visteon has complete system responsibility for the Thunderbird's climate
system. The system includes the heating and air conditioning system with
dual-zone automatic temperature control and the engine-cooling module.
Visteon designed and manufactured the Thunderbird's driveshaft, stabilizer
bar, axle, and steering gear and column, which have resulted in smooth ride
and handling for the new convertible. Additionally, Visteon's steering
column provides an added level of safety and convenience with its
telescoping design that helps absorb energy in the event of a collision,
while providing for convenient placement of other hand-operated controls.
A significant contributor to the Thunderbird's distinct interior is the
vehicle's cockpit system, including a unique cluster that provides detailed
message center functionality. The cockpit is an attractive, driver-oriented
layout that complements the vehicle's smooth curves and elegant design, and
preserves the Thunderbird's spirited heritage with a modernistic design
approach.
Visteon also supplies the Thunderbird with its CD6 Music System -- an
in-dash 6 CD radio that merges sound quality with maximum convenience.
Honda
Odyssey - Visteon's DVD Rear Seat Entertainment System is also available on
the 2002 Odyssey. Visteon is the single supplier of Honda's
dealer-installed Rear Seat Entertainment Systems, called i-VES. The i-VES
was designed specifically for the Honda Odyssey minivan and integrates
seamlessly with the vehicle's interior.
In the Odyssey, rear seat passengers will be able to enjoy their favorite
movie or play video games as they travel. An under-dash mounted Video
Cassette Player features auxiliary ports for camcorders, video games and
portable DVD's. Video games traditionally played in the home can be
plugged into i-VES and enjoyed in the vehicle.
Hyundai
Lavita - Visteon's Hard Mold-in-Color Instrument Panel with Seamless
Passenger Airbag can currently be found on the Hyundai Lavita.
The Hard Mold-in-Color Instrument Panel with Seamless Passenger Airbag
provides an integrated, seamless passenger airbag door, resulting in
improved craftsmanship, styling and appearance for the vehicle's interior.
Other benefits of the new Thermoplastic Olefin (TPO) material used is
superior impact, weld strength and laser-scoring capability when compared to
conventional materials. It also allows common tooling for vehicles with or
without passenger airbags, and easy cleaning of the instrument panel.
Tiburon - Visteon currently uses its innovative Negative Thermoforming
process on the Hyundai Tiburon coupe instrument panel.
Visteon's Negative Thermoforming forms instrument panels constructed of TPO
skin. The process then uses heat, vacuum and pressure to deliver a cost
effective alternative to Powder Slush Molding, while maintaining superior
craftsmanship. Additionally, the process uses TPO to achieve durability and
reduced weight while delivering a seamless airbag.
Infiniti
Q45 - Visteon supplies its leading edge Visteon Voice Technology* for the
2002 Infiniti Q45 Sedan.
Visteon Voice Technology understands continuous and natural patterns of
speech without the need to be trained to one voice. Drivers activate the
system by pressing the voice button, conveniently located on the steering
wheel, to obtain voice control of several functions within the vehicle
interior. In the Q45, Visteon Voice Technology enables drivers to control
audio, climate control, cellular phone and navigation systems with simple
voice commands.
Jaguar
X-Type - Visteon has developed the next generation of its world-leading
voice technology for the Jaguar X-Type.
Visteon Voice Technology interfaces with a navigation system, allowing
X-Type drivers to activate and use the system totally hands-free to program
a variety of destinations. Additionally, the voice system will interface
with optional television and teletext functions and climate control, while
allowing drivers to keep their hands-on the-wheel and their eyes-on-the
road.
Mazda
Tribute - Visteon currently uses its Laminate Insert Molding process to
manufacture the instrument panel for the Mazda Tribute SUV.
With the Laminate Insert Molding process, a pre-formed laminate skin is
inserted into a conventional, horizontal molding press before the injection
cycle to form an instrument panel. The resulting, fully recyclable product
is a one-piece molded polypropylene panel with selective soft-touch zones.
The process delivers superior craftsmanship, including a two-tone appearance
without paint, as well as consistent seam lines. Other benefits include
reduced cost compared to traditional soft panel options and superior
heat-aging characteristics.
Saturn
VUE - Visteon supplies Saturn Corporation's first sport-utility vehicle, the
VUE, with a fully independent rear suspension system that will enhance both
the ride and handling of the vehicle.
