ENDRESS EARNS TOP-10 IN DEBUT
-FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE-
FONTANA, Calif., Tuesday, March 26, 2002 - In her Grand-Am Cup debut,
Belinda Endress, of Newbury Park, Calif., earned an eighth-place finish at
California Speedway on Sunday. Endress qualified the #29 Unicom Wireless/
Xtreme Island Designs/ GMG BMW M3 17th overall and charged up to the lead
during the three-hour street-stock race in the GSI-class. The event was
Endress’ first with the Grand-Am Cup series and her first at California
Speedway’s new infield road course.
“That was a lot of fun,” Endress commented after stepping from the red BMW
M3. “I think I had a decent run. The team strategy was great. We got the car
working really well at the end and James (Sofronas, co-driver and owner of
the #29) and I drove very well together. These cars and the competitors are
just great.”
Endress reflected on her first weekend in the Grand-Am Cup, “I had a lot to
learn this weekend but I feel really good about how the weekend went. The
GMG guys worked really hard. This was the coolest birthday I have ever had.
Having my Dad here sponsoring us for the first time through Unicom Wireless
and having so many friends and family out here cheering me on was awesome.
The BMW is a nice car and I hope that we can work on something to come back
and do some more races with GMG in the future.”
Endress, originally of Lansing, Mich., has multiple wins in various forms of
motorsports and was the 2000 24 Hours of Moroso SSB-class winner. She has
