Pep Boys Adds Three Independent Directors

    PHILADELPHIA--March 26, 2002--The Pep Boys - Manny, Moe & Jack , the nation's leading full service automotive aftermarket chain, announced the addition of three independent directors to its Board of Directors.
    The new directors are Peter A. Bassi, 52, President-Tricon Restaurants International, a division of Tricon Global Restaurants ; Jane Scaccetti, 47, a CPA, Shareholder-Drucker & Scaccetti, P.C., business, tax and financial advisors; and John T. Sweetwood, 54, President-The Americas, Six Continents Hotels, PLC .
    With the recent retirement of Myles H. Tanenbaum,71, a director since 1990, the addition of these new directors increases the current size of the Company's Board of Directors to ten.
    Pep Boys' Chairman & CEO, Mitchell G. Leibovitz, made the following comment:
