Toyota, IBM and Dassault Establish Global Cooperation

    PARIS & TOKYO--March 26, 2002--

Using PLM Solutions to Support Toyota Best-in-Class Processes across
    Design, Development and Production Engineering

IBM and Dassault Systemes announced today the signing of a strategic agreement with Toyota Motor Corporation, a leading automobile manufacturer, to build a world-class collaboration around PLM Solutions covering end-to-end vehicle development processes.
Toyota will use Dassault Systemes' 3D PLM solutions. PLM solutions help manufacturers of all types innovate, improve quality, and reduce both costs and product development times. They also help companies collaborate internally, across geographic boundaries and with suppliers.
Based on the new Version 5 Product Suite -- CATIA for design, ENOVIA for collaboration, and DELMIA for digital manufacturing -- the transformation will cover end-to-end vehicle development processes worldwide. It will enable Toyota to extend its legendary ability to deliver the best products on time to global customers.
CATIA, the world's leading 3D product development solution, is now used by 22 of the top 30 global automotive manufacturers and is the de facto global standard in automotive manufacturing. The unique, integrated and open V5 architecture will allow Toyota to capture, share and reuse information across its own global manufacturing environment and also to extend the system to its vast supplier network worldwide.
Toyota, IBM and Dassault Systemes have been working together for two years to establish this new relationship, and to prepare the full-scale deployment of CATIA Version 5 worldwide. They are now setting up integrated teams to support the implementation of these new production processes. IBM and Dassault Systemes will develop, enhance, deliver and support optimal solutions for car development processes that meet Toyota's expectations and requirements.
Bernard Charles, President, Dassault Systemes, said, "For years, Toyota has been associated in a successful partnership with Dassault Systemes as the largest DELMIA customer in the world. This new alliance is a clear signal towards automotive standardization around CATIA and digital integration of life cycle with CATIA, ENOVIA and DELMIA. This partnership, based on solid and long-term cooperation between the global leaders in car development and 3D PLM solutions, will generate tremendous synergies impacting the innovative product development processes across industries."
Ed Petrozelli, general manager, IBM Product Lifecycle Management, added, "Toyota's strategic investments in IBM's and Dassault Systemes technology and industry expertise demonstrate the value of our entire PLM solutions portfolio in helping them reach their objective to become a truly global, digitally extended enterprise. IBM's history of pacesetting contributions and investments in automotive technology combined with the unparalleled reach of our resources worldwide, including our world-class Virtual Product Innovation (VPI) teams, will help ensure Toyota's success in setting new global standards for automobile manufacturing and integrated collaboration between manufacturers and their suppliers."
3D PLM Solutions enable customers to optimize their business processes for engineering, manufacturing, maintenance and support using collaborative workspaces to share a common product, process and resource model. With this model, companies can capture, share and reuse knowledge all along a product's lifecycle. This is enabled by Component Application Architecture (CAA), which allows extension and integration of such solutions within multiple enterprise environments.
