LEBANON VALLEY CHAMPIONS RECEIVE $80,000 IN POINT MONEY

WEST LEBANON, NY-Lebanon Valley Speedway honored their Modified and Sportsman 
drivers and owners at awards banquets held March 23rd in the speedway 
clubhouse. In what is becoming one of the largest short track point funds in 
the country, $80,000.00 was awarded to the high point men in the Modified, 
Sportsman and Pro Stock divisions. The $80,000.00 mark echoes the largest 
ever in the speedway's 50-year history and is one step closer to achieving 
the goal of $100,000.00.
    Kenny Tremont Jr. once again took home the lions share of the point money 
as he and his family and crew celebrated the #115's twelfth Modified 
championship and taking home $5,699.00. 2001 was a difficult year for the 
Tremont's and Pastor David Wells acknowledged Kenny as a true Champion on and 
off the track.
After capturing the 2000 championship at Lebanon Valley Rich Ricci Jr. nearly 
backed it up by finishing in the runner up position driving the Gable 
Motorsports #1R. Rich Ricci Jr. was also recognized as the 358 Modified 
Champion. Rounding out the top ten in Modified points were Tim Dwyer, Eddie 
Marshall, J. R. Heffner, Ronnie Johnson, Matt Quinn, Donnie Corellis, Dickie 
Larkin and Guy Sheldon. 
Finishing 11th through 15th in points were Chris Moore, Jason Goff, Dave 
Leckonby, Mike King and Rob Pitcher. All fifteen Modified drivers received 
money from the Lebanon Valley point fund.
The John Maxon Modified Rookie of the Year award went to the #33P of Wes 
Powell. Wes finished a respectable 23rd in points and was the highest 
finishing rookie.
    In the Sportsman division Mark "Sparky" Lowe garnered his second 
Sportsman championship. Sparky had 3 wins in 2001. Lowe took home $3,289.00 
for his efforts. 
Bobby Knipe finished second in the Sportsman points followed by Art Collins, 
Roy Bridge, K. C. Goewey, Hawley Smith, Frank Harper, John Scarborough, Joe 
Bennett and Mike Mason. The top ten Sportsman drivers received money from the 
Lebanon Valley point fund.
     Second generation Sportsman driver Mike Keeler was honored as the 
Sportsman division Rookie of the Year for the 2001 season. Mike is one of the 
speedway's young up and comers and shows a lot of talent.
    The Press Award recognizes the importance of the press in getting the 
information about racing, drivers and race teams to the public. The 2001 
Lebanon Valley Press Award was presented to John Stanley and Bob Jennings for 
their Sunday Night Motorsports radio show. 
    The Jeff Yasinsac Memorial Mr. Excitement Award is presented to the 
driver who exemplifies the excitement that Jeff brought to the sport. For his 
exciting high line driving style Sportsman driver Bobby Knipe was honored 
with this special award. Robin Yasinsac was on hand to present Bobby the 
award.
    The final award was a very special one. The induction of another great 
driver, owner and all around wonderful person into the Lebanon Valley 
Speedway Hall of Fame. Russ Blake of Pittsfield, MA became the 50th member. 
Ron Blake too the stage and made en emotional speech thanking Russ and 
bringing up friends and family to help honor his Dad. 
    A new twist was added to this years banquet with the addition of Eddie 
Clark who is part of the "Waking up with the Wolf" radio program on WPYX 
106.5 FM in the Capital District. His half-hour comedy act was very funny and 
Clark had the crowd in stitches.
