Ford Holds Prices On 2003 Expedition

DEARBORN, Mich., March 25, 2002 – Keeping with Ford’s "No Boundaries" mind-set, the all-new 2003 Ford Expedition is rewriting the rules and giving customers refinements and features without increasing base price. Best of all, every Expedition comes with standard fold-flat-into-the-floor second- and third-row seats that never need to be removed.

The base Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for the new Expedition will remain consistent with 2002 models. Pricing will range from $31,295 for the XLT Value series to $41,935 for the Eddie Bauer series. Prices include destination and delivery charges of $740.

For 2003, Expedition will be offered in two models: XLT and Eddie Bauer. XLT will feature five arrays: Value, Popular, Premium, FX4 and a Special Service Vehicle (SSV) available to fleet customers later this year. The volume model, an XLT 4x4 Popular series equipped with a 5.4-liter Triton™ V-8 engine, will carry a base MSRP of $37,235, including destination and delivery charges.

"Our customers are getting more features and standard content for the same price," said Jim O'Connor, Ford Division president. "The

all-new 2003 Expedition continues to strengthen our already strong SUV lineup that includes Escape, Explorer and Excursion."

When introduced in 1997, Expedition set a new standard for full-size SUVs, and the 2003 Expedition continues to raise the bar. Offering a fully independent rear suspension for improved ride and handling, a fold-flat-into-the-floor third-row seat, class-leading safety systems and an unmistakable "No Boundaries" design – Expedition features more than 27 class-exclusive and best-in-class features, including:

  • A 60/40 split fold-flat-into-the-floor third-row seat. With the industry-first power-fold option on the Eddie Bauer model, each section of the third row folds independently with the push of a button.
  • An innovative fold-flat-into-the-floor second-row bench seat, split 40/20/40, offering a first-in-segment forward-sliding center section. This seating position is family friendly, allowing easier access to young children in the second row. The sliding seat has secure, convenient LATCH child-seat attachments.
  • Second- and third-row fold-flat seats that create a large cargo bay 1.3 inches wider than the previous model. At more than 110 cubic feet, total cargo space is among best in class and equivalent to last year’s model. But unlike competitive-make vehicles, there is no need for the customer to remove any seats to achieve maximum cargo capability.
  • The first independent rear suspension on a full-size SUV, providing further refinement for class-leading ride and handling as well as room for innovative passenger and cargo solutions, like fold-flat seating.
  • The widest track in the segment at 67 inches front and 67.3 inches rear for a more confident stance and enhanced cornering control.
  • Many safety features including the Safety Canopy™ side air curtain protection system with rollover sensors, the Personal Safety System™ and bumper beams designed for compatibility with passenger cars.
  • An AdvanceTrac™ electronic stability enhancement system that monitors traction at all wheels and automatically enhances stability while cornering on slippery surfaces.
  • An enhanced maximum tow rating of 8,900 pounds, making Expedition best in class.
  • A new XLT option, the FX4 off-road model that includes skid-plate protection and many features off-road enthusiasts most desire. FX4 will be available later in 2002.

Base Expedition pricing reflects no year-over-year increase on XLT Value models. Eddie Bauer models reflect a $110 increase. Available in dealerships beginning in late spring, the 2003-model Expedition will be built at Ford Motor Company's Michigan Truck Plant in Wayne, Mich.
