Toyota, Lexus Reign In Sales Per Dealership

Arlena Sawyers reported in Automotive News, that Toyota and its luxury division, Lexus, tightened their grip on the crown for car and light-truck sales per dealership in 2001, holding fast to the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, respectively, for the third straight year. Toyota sold 1,264 cars and light trucks per outlet, 85 more than it sold in 2000 and 103 more than second-place Lexus. Toyota's total was the third highest by any brand in the 47 years Automotive News has been compiling figures. Honda continued as the car leader in 2001 with its dealers averaging 771 sales per outlet - 19 more than the 752 sold in 2000. Lexus was second in the car-sales tally with an average of 711 per dealership, 29 more than the 682 per dealership sold by Toyota dealers. In 2000, Toyota sold 727 cars per outlet and Lexus sold 537.
