Season Opener For Late Models Provides a New Face in HMS Victory Lane
 
HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (March 23, 2002) - The Hardeeville Motor Speedway season
opener for the O.C. Welch Ford-Lincoln-Mercury Late Models found Todd Kelly
from Hartsville, S.C. in victory lane after the 100-lap Coca Cola Spring
National main event.  Tom Haidon from Hilton Head, S.C. and Leland Prewitt
from Savannah, Ga. finished second and third respectively.  Kevin O'Brien
of Burton, S.C. picked up a well-earned victory over Walter Reardon from
Savannah, Ga. and Andrew Smith also from Savannah, Ga. in the Legends Cars
A-Main.  Randy Forehand from Sylvania, Ga. won the Legends Cars B-Main.
Don Dean of Sheldon, S.C. picked up the Xtreme Stock Car victory.  Hubert
Into of Bloomingdale, Ga. topped the Street Stock field.

Next weekend, there will be no racing at the Hardeeville Motor Speedway,
however the Easter Bunny will make a visit to the track on Saturday
afternoon, March 30th at 2:00 p.m. for the 2nd Annual Jasper County Easter
Egg Hunt.  Presented in part by the Jasper County Chamber of Commerce, the
hunt will be divided into three different ages groups (5 and under; ages
6-8; ages 9-12)
  
Racing will return to the Hardeeville Motor Speedway on Saturday night,
April 6th for the NASCAR Goodys Dash Series.  This will mark the first time
that a NASCAR Touring Series race was held in the Lowcountry and Coastal
Empire area since March of 1970 when seven-time Winston Cup champion
Richard Petty won a Grand National race at the Savannah Speedway.  Tickets
are currently on sale now by calling (843) 784-RACE or stopping by the
track Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.  Gates open at
12:00 p.m. with practice at 1:00 p.m.  Qualifying will be at 5:30 p.m.
followed by an autograph session and racing at 8:00 p.m.  You can also
