Carville, Luntz Debate to Spark Annual SEMA Washington
Rally
James Carville and Republican
insider Frank Luntz will engage in a battle of political minds on Wednesday,
May 15, as SEMA, the Specialty Equipment Market Association, kicks off its
annual visit to Capitol Hill haunts.
The two nationally known political advisors will provide the SEMA members
attending the rally with their insightful, incisive views of the nation's
state of politics, this fall's mid-term Congressional elections, and issues
affecting the automotive industry.
SEMA Director of International and Government Relations Linda Spencer said
that SEMA has invited all the members of Congress, with special invitations to
the members of the Congressional Automotive Performance, Specialty and
Motorsports Caucus. The bi-partisan caucus is co-chaired by Sen. Ben
Nighthorse Campbell (R-CO) and Congressman Sander Levin (D-MI). Formed in 1996
to raise the profile of the motorsports and specialty automotive industry
nationally and in the nation's capitol, the Caucus has consistently supported
the industry.
Most recently, Sen. Campbell successfully introduced an amendment to eliminate
federally-funded programs to scrap older vehicles from proposed legislation.
The SEMA-sponsored Washington event will include a May 15 reception. Senator
Campbell will host an "insider breakfast" on Thursday, May 16.
Spencer said that all SEMA member companies and their employees are encouraged
to participate in this mission to Washington. "We've had great success in
explaining our industry to Congress since our first event in 1996," she said.
