World of Outlaws Series returns to Houston this weekend

HOUSTON (March 20) – Legendary Sprint Car racers Steve Kinser and Danny
Lasoski lead the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series into Houston Raceway
Park Speedway this weekend, March 23-24, for two action-filled evenings
of professional racing. The third annual Texas Sprint Car Shootout is
the seventh stop on the 69-event World of Outlaws Series and “the King”
and “the Dude,” as Kinser and Lasoski are known by their legion of fans
around the country, are 1-2 in the points, respectively, with two
victories each on the young season.

With three wins in the first four series events held at the 2-year-old
Baytown facility, Kinser must be considered the odds-on favorite to
notch another victory this weekend. But in this wild and unpredictable
style of racing, which dubs itself as “the Greatest Show on Dirt,”
anything can, and usually will, happen. That’s why reigning series
champion Lasoski, who trails Kinser by just six points in the standings,
1,006 to 1,000, is revved up about putting his Tony Stewart-owned #20
J.D. Byrider Eagle in Houston Raceway Park’s Winner’s Circle.

“Steve’s had a great run in Houston, no doubt,” Lasoski said. “I know
I’ve finished second to him a couple of times already down there. But we
have a plan to put an end to that this time around. I’ll tell you,
Houston is a great facility to race. It’s one of the top-notch tracks we
go to and it’s designed for maximum performance. The fans should come
out. They won’t be disappointed.”

This is the third year of Sprint Car competition at Houston Raceway Park
Speedway, which is widely regarded as the best supertrack in the
country. The speedway, located next to the world-renowned drag strip,
features the latest in racing venue amenities such as a 3/8-mile oval
dirt track, 10,000 stadium-style seats with backs, 14 VIP suites, two
tower elevators, state-of-the-art Musco lighting, and a fully-paved pit
area.

Gates open at 5 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Racing begins two hours
later with hot laps, qualifying, and the main events. Aside from the
Sprint Cars, Saturday’s action will include late-model full-bodied cars,
while Sunday’s program will include modified machines. General admission
tickets for either day are just $12 for Juniors (ages 7-12) and $25 for
adults. Children 6 and under are free. Reserved seats cost $10 for
children aged 6 and under, $20 for Juniors, and $40 for adults. A pit
pass can be added to any ticket for $15.
