Nistevo Defines Ten Criteria of Network Software

    MINNEAPOLIS--March 19, 2002--

New White Paper by Nistevo CEO Kevin Lynch Distinguishes Between Network and Enterprise Software; Brings to Light Enterprise Software's True Costs

Nistevo Corp., a leading Collaborative Logistics Network(SM), today announced the 10 Criteria of Network Software with the release of a new white paper authored by Kevin Lynch, president and chief executive officer of Nistevo. The white paper distinguishes between two software packaging and distribution models - network and enterprise software - and illustrates each model's impact on delivery, implementation and IT infrastructure.
The white paper defines enterprise software as the traditional model in which customers license software and buy hardware, then customize, implement and upgrade the application using IT and system integrator resources. Enterprise software also includes applications that are retrofitted to run in a hosted environment. Alternatively, network software is defined as a hosted, Web-native application that is delivered as a multi-tenant service (i.e., a single, shared platform and version of the software) which can be quickly configured, deployed and updated.
"The network software model used by Nistevo and others offers an alternative to traditional software," said Jerry McNerney, analyst at AMR Research. "It is not simply hosting a Web-enabled application, but designing a solution from the ground up for delivery over the Internet. This model allows these applications to be deployed and adopted more rapidly by users, enables cross-supply chain collaboration, and ultimately offer customers a faster return on investment."
Within the white paper, Lynch defines the following ten criteria of network software:

                    10 Criteria of Network Software
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Network Software Enterprise Software
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Web-Native Versus... Web-Enabled
Single Code Base Versus... Multiple Code Bases
Single Platform Versus... Multi-Platform Support
Hosted, Multi-Tenant Delivery Versus... Installed or Hosted,
                                                Single-Tenant Delivery
Common Data Model Versus... Custom Proprietary
                                                Data Models
Standard Connectivity Versus... Custom-Developed
                                                Connectivity
Real-Time Transactions Versus... Batch Transactions
Flexible Configuration Versus... Custom Development
Continuous Feature Delivery Versus... Software Releases/
                                                Re-Deployment
Subscription Service Pricing Versus... License Pricing
----------------------------------------------------------------------

"Companies have spent billions of dollars licensing, customizing, implementing, maintaining and upgrading supply chain software in the pursuit of improved efficiency and service," Lynch said. "Despite significant investment, projects are often not as successful as planned and fall short of return on investment expectations. Advancements in technology and the need to realize value much more efficiently are driving a structural change in the industry. Nistevo's Collaborative Logistics Network leverages the network software model to help our clients compress their time to value, reduce their risk and eliminate the hidden costs associated with enterprise software."
