Ashtech DG16 Board for Sub-Meter Positioning and Navigation Ready to Save Users Time and Increase Productivity

    LAS VEGAS--March 19, 2002--

DG16 OEM Board Delivers High-Precision GPS+Beacon+SBAS Positioning & Navigation Technology for Construction, Land and Marine Navigation,
Agriculture, GIS, Photogrammetry, Tracking and More

Thales (tal-less) Navigation, a leading global provider of GPS solutions including Magellan(R) and Ashtech(R) product lines, today announced the availability of the Ashtech DG16(TM) GPS+Beacon+SBAS receiver, the perfect OEM single board solution for high-end integration in sub-meter positioning and navigation applications. The DG16 is a 16-channel receiver with 12 GPS L1 code and carrier channels, two optional SBAS (Satellite Based Augmentation Systems: WAAS, EGNOS & MSAS) channels and two optional 300 kHz DGPS Beacon channels.
The new DG16 GPS board provides numerous benefits in a variety of applications, such as enabling construction crews to locate positions accurately using Differential GPS (DGPS) -- accurate and reliable positioning without the need for additional radio equipment. In land and marine navigation, the new DG16 is the best single board solution because of its on-board SBAS and Beacon receivers, and can switch between the two systems to provide reliable and continuous DGPS positioning. Likewise, the DG16 offers a variety of benefits for applications in agriculture, GIS, photogrammetry, tracking, and more.
"The Ashtech DG16 provides the accuracy and versatility that DGPS users need to perform their jobs quickly and conveniently," said Thomas Hunter, Thales Navigation's vice president of worldwide sales and marketing for professional products. "One of its distinguishing features is the ability to accept corrections from multiple sources so users can benefit from remote operations in areas where heavy foliage or other conditions prevent optimal signal tracking."
In addition, the DG16 offers optimal signal tracking, better accuracy in shaded environments, and improved multipath mitigation as a result of Ashtech Edge(TM) and Strobe Correlator(TM) technologies. Other winning features offered in the DG16 include its low power consumption, 20 Hz position and raw data output rate, a wide array of coordinate transformation options, advanced in-band and out-of-band interference rejection capabilities and improved under-tree tracking. In addition, user-defined messages allow more versatility in extracting data, while reduced latency provides more accurate data. The DG16 also has a Kalman filter for position prediction, and offers user-selected dynamic modes for varying operating conditions. All these features make the DG16 the best choice for integration in machine automation and asset tracking systems.
For convenient upgrades, the DG16 is backward compatible with Thales Navigation's Ashtech G12 GPS receiver hardware and interface. The compatible Ashtech Evaluate(TM) software provides visual displays of satellite information, receiver position and velocity, as well as data logging and analysis. The DG16 is also available in a Development Kit with the required software, antenna, cables, and user manuals for efficient evaluation.
