Johnson Again Teams with Graham Nash Racing
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SEBRING, Fla. (March 14, 2002) - Saleen factory driver, Ron Johnson will once again be behind the wheel of the #83 Graham Nash Racing Saleen S7R. Johnson drove with GNR during the Rolex in January and he will be competing in this weekend's 50th Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring presented by Dodge.
Johnson will be the lone driver representing the United States in the England-based car, as he is again sharing driving duties with Brazilian Tommy Erdos and Englishman Ian McKeller, Jr., the 2001 ELMS GTS champion.
"I am looking forward to driving with Tommy and Ian again," Johnson said. "They are both established drivers and we work well together as a team. I appreciate Graham (Nash) giving us the chance to run together again."
The #83 car qualified fifth in the GTS class for the 12-Hour event. Johnson is hoping his car, which was the fastest Saleen in qualifying, will carry on Saleen's success from last year. Although after adding the penalty of 70 kilos and a smaller restrictor, the Saleens are a little off of the GTS pace.
"A Saleen won the event last year," Johnson said. "Even with the restrictions this year, we know we have a car that will be competitive."
Although his permanent plans for the 2002 race season is yet unknown, Johnson will be in the GNR Saleen at this year's running of Le Mans in June. He will start the MBA program at Stanford Business School in September 2002.
