RACING IS FAMILY AFFAIR FOR JONES
SARASOTA, FLA. (March 12, 2002) - Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship
driver Jeffrey Jones has announced he will contest both the 12 Hours of
Sebring and the season-opening doubleheader of the Zetec Championship this
coming weekend.
Driving for Cape Motorsports, Jones will contest Rounds One and Two of the
Zetec Championship on Thursday, March 14, 2002 and Friday, March 15, 2002.
On Saturday, March 16, 2002, Jones will join his older brother, Ryan and
father, Jeff, behind the wheel of the Racing Organisation Course LMP-675 car
in the Sebring 12 Hour race.
Jones, who is a rookie in the Zetec Championship, returns to race in North
America, having having raced in Europe the past several years. Last year, he
raced in the competitive British Formula 3 Championship with Manor
Motorsports, scoring several top-5 finishes.
The trio, which have never driven together previously, will drive a Reynard
2KQ-009 for the french-based team in the 12 hour race. The Jones' have an
extensive racing history. Jeff has over 20 years of race experience in
various types of cars and has previously contested the Sebring 12 Hours with
Danny Sullivan and Ross Bently. Ryan returns to the cockpit having raced in
showroom stock, Formula Palmer Audi, LMP-900 class and the Zetec
Championship in 1998. The Jones family will be hoping to follow-up the
team's class win in the 24 Hours of Le Man in 2001.
