Michigan Sports Hall of Fame Names Champion Red Wing and DaimlerChrysler Executive to Board of Directors

DETROIT--(BW SportsWire)--March 8, 2002--Recently retired Detroit Red Wing Doug Brown and Don Schmid, Director of Global Events Marketing at DaimlerChrysler, have been elected to the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame (MSHOF) Board of Directors, Board Chairman Roger Faulkner announced today.
"We are very pleased to announce these excellent additions to our board," Faulkner said. "Don Schmid gives the board representation from the automobile industry, and his event management and marketing experience will be invaluable. Doug Brown will bring the athlete's perspective to our activities, and will strengthen our links to both current athletes and to the Hall's members. That they have both enthusiastically agreed to serve on the board reflects the great progress the MSHOF is making."
Brown spent seven of his 15 professional hockey seasons as a Red Wing (1994-1995 to 2001-2002). He made important contributions to Detroit's two Stanley Cup Championships in the 1990s, and is now a sales consultant for Diversified Wire and Cable in Madison Heights, Mich.
"I am honored to be elected to the board of the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame," Brown said. "The organization does a terrific job identifying people with Michigan ties in the sporting world who have distinguished themselves not only in their sport, but in their community as well. I look forward to representing the board."
Brown and his wife, Maureen, have participated in charitable activities since moving to Detroit in 1995. They live in Bloomfield Hills with their five children.
Schmid is also active in the Metro Detroit community, having been involved with various professional and philanthropic activities for nearly two decades.
"It will be a great pleasure to serve as a board member for the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame," Schmid said. "Between going to Red Wings games and my responsibilities at the North American Auto Show, I have always enjoyed perusing the famous Michigan Sports Hall of Fame inductee plaques that grace the walls of Cobo Hall."
As Director of Global Events Marketing for DaimlerChrysler, Schmid supervises all of DaimlerChrysler's Auto Shows worldwide and is in charge of the DaimlerChrysler's brand and corporate marketing events throughout the United States. Schmid lives in Troy and is the proud father of four children.

The Michigan Sports Hall of Fame, located in The Cobo Conference Center, is a non-profit organization committed to recognizing and celebrating the excellence of performance and civic contributions of Michigan's finest athletes. Induction ceremonies for the Hall's Class of 2002 will take place April 17 in Cobo Center's Riverview Ballroom.
