GMT560 = 2003 Chevrolet Kodiak / GMC TopKick: Any Way You Figure It, The Right Medium Duty Trucks for the Job
FOR RELEASE: March 6, 2002GMT560 = 2003 Chevrolet Kodiak / GMC TopKick: Any Way You Figure It, The Right Medium Duty Trucks for the Job
For 2003, General Motors has added model-name designations to its all-new conventional-cab line of Class 4-8 trucks and at the same time has raised the bar on vehicle capability and durability for the commercial customer. Through GM’s advanced engineering and design, buyers of 2003 Chevrolet Kodiak / GMC TopKick medium duty trucks – previously known only by their GM code name GMT560 - can now expect even more best-in-class reliability and performance across the revamped truck lineup, no matter what the particular job or application.
The Kodiak / TopKick C4500-C5500 Series (Class 4-5) trucks have been designed and engineered from the ground up for 2003. From regular and commercial cutaway chassis cabs, and even vocational packages to cover School Bus, Fire and Rescue, Ambulance, Shuttle Bus, Wrecker and Snowplow requirements, there are more specific model choices than ever before. New crew cab and four-wheel drive models will follow. Gross Vehicle Weight Ratings (GVWRs) ranging from 16,000 pounds for the C4500 to 18,000 and 19,500 pounds for the C5500, make it easy to find the perfect offering to get the job done right.
For even bigger tasks there’s the new Kodiak / TopKick C6500, C7500 and C8500 Series (Class 6-7-8) trucks, replacing GM’s conventional-cab C-Series line with regular and crew cab, chassis cab offerings. With sturdy GVWRs covering 19,501 to 61,000 pounds, there’s more than enough work muscle available to handle any job. And the model range includes LoPro, Tandem and Tractor variants. What’s more, the Kodiak / TopKick model-name designations will be familiar to commercial customers, as the names were used on Chevrolet and GMC medium duty trucks available from the early 1980s through the mid- ‘90s.
As part of the extensive improvements across the product line, these new trucks feature market-defining innovations in several important categories that medium duty customers value most. There’s best-in-class maneuverability and visibility, an expanded powertrain lineup, upgraded serviceability, advanced chassis and braking systems, improved ride and handling and increased comfort and safety, just to name a few.
“These trucks reflect a major investment by General Motors and years of effort by a highly dedicated commercial-truck team,” said David A. Hansen, general manager of GM Fleet and Commercial Operations. “The best-in-class products that they have created reinforce GM’s position as a medium-duty segment leader.”
Expanding upon the previous-generation’s best-in-class customer satisfaction ratings, the 2003 Kodiak / TopKick are the most-researched, most consumer-focused line of commercial vehicles that GM has ever developed. As a result, “these new medium duty trucks are so user-friendly, it’s like you’re driving a light-duty vehicle,’’ said Ray Chess, vehicle line executive for the medium duty truck program. But make no mistake: One test drive can easily show that GM’s dramatically improved new Kodiak / TopKick lineup offers the kind of dependable, long-lasting, rock-solid medium duty truck capability that professional owner/operators want, need and deserve.
