YAMAHA FX140 WINS MOTOR BOATING MAGAZINE EDITORS’ CHOICE AWARD
World’s First Four-Stroke PWC Tops Magazine’s List for Innovation and Design
Kennesaw, GA— The Yamaha WaveRunner® FX140™, the world’s first four-stroke
personal watercraft, topped Motor Boating magazine’s list of 2002 Editors’
Choice Award winners citing the FX140's industry-leading innovation and
design.
According to the magazine’s February 2002 issue, the FX140 was “singled out
by our expert staff for its innovation and ingenuity and represents the
leading edge in marine technology for 2002.” Motor Boating presented the
trophy to Yamaha at a private awards ceremony held during the Miami
International Boat Show.
The WaveRunner FX140 is more than 80 percent cleaner than conventional
two-stroke engines while saving consumers up to $1,000 or more annually on
fuel and oil costs. In addition, the FX140 may be the quietest watercraft
ever designed, reducing sound intensity levels by 70 percent at cruising
speed and more than 85 percent compared to one of the quietest two-stroke
direct injection models available.
“[The FX140] meets the increasingly stringent air-quality standards set by
the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Air Resources
Board (CARB),” noted the Motor Boating editorial staff. “Owners will no
doubt appreciate the immediate cost savings on fuel, oil and maintenance.”
In addition to the Motor Boating Editors’ Choice Award, the Yamaha FX140
received the Popular Mechanics 2002 Design and Engineering Award as well as
Popular Science’s Best of What’s New and Reader’s Choice awards.
