Law Co-Pilots Picchio to Second at Homestead
HOMESTEAD, Fla. (March 2, 2002) - Despite electrical problems at the end of the Nextel 250, Darren Law and the Momentum Motorcars/G&W Motorsports team finished second in the SRP II Class at the Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Law and new teammate, 2001 Rolex Series SRP II Driver Champion, Andy Lally, are still sorting out the new #07 Momentum Motorcars/G&W Motorsports BMW-powered Picchio sponsored by USI Insurance and Valley Group.
"Our transmission broke and took us out of the race on Lap 92," Law said. "We are still trying to work out all the bugs in the new car. Once we get it all sorted, we will be very competitive."
PTG is working on a new engine program for the Picchio, which will be in effect at the next Rolex Series event at the California Speedway.
"I am really looking forward to the rest of the season," Law said. "These first two races have been a little tough, but with our new engine program starting at Fontana, we should see things really start to fall into place with this new car."
Saturday's Nextel 250 was Law and Lally's first time competing as teammates. Law, the 2001 Rolex Series GT Class Driver Champion, is excited about teaming with a fellow champion for the 2002 Grand American season.
"It is great having Andy as a teammate," Law said. "He has proven that he is a great driver and our driving styles really complement each other."
Law's next event will be the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring on March 16, beginning at 10:30 a.m. He will be back behind the wheel of a Porsche, as he will co-pilot The Racer's Group Porsche GT3-RS, along with team owner Kevin Buckler and former G&W teammate, Michael Schrom.
