BMW Records Record February Sales; Year-to-Date BMW Sales Jump 15 Percent
WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., March 1 -- BMW of North America, LLC reported continued robust sales in February, bringing year-to-date vehicle sales to 33,879, up 15 percent over the same period last year, when the company reported total vehicle sales of 29,464. February sales were up 14 percent, too, as BMW reported 17,956 compared to 15,756 vehicles sold a year ago, a record for the month.
Automobile Sales
February automobile sales were up 14.6 percent, with 14,765 units recorded, compared to 12,883 a year ago. BMW reported year-to-date automobile sales of 27,543 automobiles, compared to 23,562 in February 2001, an increase of 17 percent. Included in BMW's record-breaking performance are sales of 1,358 all-new 2002 7 Series sedans, which went on sale January 19th to strong customer acceptance.
Sports Activity Vehicle Sales
February sales of Sports Activity Vehicles were up 11 percent, with BMW reporting 3,191 vehicles sold versus 2,873 in the same month a year ago. Year-to-date sales of BMW's X5 Sports Activity Vehicles increased 7.4 percent to 6,336, up from 5,902 in the first two months of 2001.
Certified Pre-owned Vehicles Sales
BMW also continued to build momentum in the Certified Pre-Owned segment, reporting its best February ever with 4,087 sales for the month, up 29.5% from the 3,157 it sold a year ago. Year-to-date, BMW has sold 7,421 Certified Pre-Owned vehicles, up 23% compared to the 6,021 it sold during the same period last year.
