Chrysler Group Reports U.S. February Sales
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., March 1 Chrysler Group reported U.S. sales of 178,642 units in February, 2002, an 11 percent decrease compared to last year, the fourth highest February in Company history (201,636 units). Retail sales were comparable to a year ago, but overall sales declined due to lower fleet orders -- especially daily rental units.
Total sales for the month increased 27 percent over January, 2002, when measured on a daily selling rate.
``Our lineup of modern new products, like the all-new 2002 Dodge Ram and Jeep® Liberty, continue to gain momentum in a highly competitive marketplace,'' said Gary Dilts, senior vice president - Sales. ``Given the fact that last February was one of the best in our history, this month's retail sales figures show that hot products and clear brand identities, along with a strategic incentive plan, can help fuel sales in a very competitive environment.''
Total sales of Dodge Ram were 32,253 units, up 19 percent, compared to February, 2001. February was the third consecutive month that Ram truck sales have been up. Sales of the all-new 2002 Dodge Ram truck were 25,749 units, up 35 percent from last month.
``Dodge Ram's bold, in-your-face styling has been well received by consumers and dealers alike,'' added Dilts. ``Each month, sales continue to climb as truck buyers recognize the capability, performance and styling advantages of the new Ram.''
Jeep Liberty sales were 11,466 units, an increase of 10 percent from last month.
``This is further concrete evidence that no matter what the competitive conditions, Jeep Liberty is a true success in the market, even without incentives,'' said Dilts.
Several products showed dramatic improvements over the previous month, led by Chrysler PT Cruiser (up 57 percent), Dodge and Chrysler minivans (39 percent), Jeep Grand Cherokee (35 percent) and Dodge Durango (28 percent).
On February 27, Chrysler Group extended its current incentive program
until March 31, 2002.
This program has up to $2,500 consumer cash on select
2002 model year Chrysler, Jeep, and Dodge vehicles, plus a seven-year/100,000-
mile powertrain protection pledge on all Chrysler Group vehicles.
