AAA Texas: State Gas Prices Increase Slightly From Last Week; Updated Prices Lets You Know the Cost of Traveling Before Leaving Home

HOUSTON--March 1, 2002--Gas prices throughout Texas increased by about a penny in some cities and remained the same in others during the past week, according to the Weekend Gas Watch compiled by AAA Texas. The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline at popular destinations for motoring trips.
The average price in Austin-San Marcos is $1.047, up 1.1 cents from last week. Motorists in Corpus Christi are paying an average of $1.054, up 0.8 cents, while Dallas drivers are paying an average of $1.074, up 0.4 cents. Houston has an average of $1.063, up 0.3 cents. San Antonio has an average of $1.027, up 0.2 cents.
"Despite the increases, gas prices have been relatively stable throughout our region without sharp price spikes," said AAA Texas spokesperson Rose Rougeau. "During the next few weeks, refineries will switch from winter to summer formulations. Summer formulation gasoline costs more to manufacture, which may result in continuing increases at the pump."
