Hooters Returns to Winston Cup: We Sure Missed Them!

Atlanta, GA (Feb. 28, 2002) - After a six-year absence from the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, Hooters will return to the series on a limited basis during the 2002 season. Hooters controlling owner Robert H. Brooks has said he has begun the process of applying for a number and license for a team that will be owned and sponsored by the restaurant chain based in Atlanta, Georgia.

The initial plan is to run a limited number of events later this year and several more in 2003. There are no plans to run full-time in the Winston Cup Series at this time. Brooks is currently exploring properties near Charlotte to field the race team.

Hooters sponsored Alan Kulwicki during his championship season in 1992 and was his sponsor when Kulwicki and three others, which included Brooks' son Mark, were killed in a plane crash on April 1, 1993 near Bristol, TN.
