Race fans attending the March 3, 2002, UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 will get to sleep in an hour later than usual.

Starting times have been set for the fifth annual UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 NASCAR Winston Cup event as well as the March 2, Sam’s Town 300 NASCAR Busch Series event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The green flag will fall on the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 at 12:30 p.m. Pacific Time, which is an hour later than the four previous NASCAR Winston Cup events at LVMS. For the fifth consecutive year, the Sam’s Town 300 will get a 1 p.m. (PT) start.

“The later start time will give everyone a little more sleep and allow for more travel time on race morning,” said Chris Powell, LVMS executive vice president and general manager. “This was a cooperative effort between the speedway, NASCAR and FOX Sports. This new start time will be much more convenient for all of our race fans.”

In addition to the races, starting times also are set for qualifying and practice. Bud Pole qualifying for the Busch Series is set for 12:30 p.m. on Friday, March 1. Winston Cup Series qualifying will follow the Busch Series. Winston Cup “Happy Hour” is set for 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, March 2.

Tickets are on sale for all three days of racing at LVMS. Tickets also are on sale for the Pennzoil World of Outlaws, which are scheduled to run Feb. 28, March 1 and 2.
