NOTES FROM THE NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES EVENT BEING HELD AT GAINESVILLE RACEWAY

Bonus awards: The Sealed Power Low Qualifier awards were earned by Jason Cannon, of Middleburg, Fla., in Top Alcohol Dragster and Jay Payne, of Claremont, Calif., in his '02 Chevrolet Camaro Top Alcohol Funny Car. Cannon, who recorded a 5.485-second pass at 259.89 mph and Payne, who recorded a 5.991-second pass at 247.59 mph, each collected $1250. In Comp Eliminator, Larry Pritchett of Clarkrange, Tenn., took home $400 from Sealed Power for qualifying in the top spot behind the wheel of his '99 Pontiac Grand Am. Collecting the $400 Sealed Power Low Qualifier award in Super Stock was Holly, Mich. resident Chuck Gallager, while Woodro Josey of Byron, Ga. earned a $200 bonus for qualifying number one in Stock Eliminator.

Other awards went to Top Alcohol Dragster driver Bill McCornack of Lexington, Ky. for Best Engineered Car, and Super Comp competitor Gary Boyd of Pembroke, Fla., for Best Appearing Car. The awards were presented by CSI Performance.
