Andy Brown to be Inducted Into National Academy of Engineering

TROY, Mich., Feb. 20 -- Delphi Director of Engineering Dr. Andrew Brown, Jr., 52, has earned one of the country's highest professional distinctions that can be accorded an engineer -- induction into the National Academy of Engineering. Brown is among 74 new members that will be inducted into this prestigious group on October 5, 2002, in Washington, DC.

The National Academy of Engineering honors those who have made ``important contributions to engineering theory and practice'' and those who have demonstrated ``unusual accomplishment in the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology.'' According to the academy, Brown will be inducted ``for the effective planning and integration of large-scale, highly diverse research and engineering activities.'' He joins a distinguished group of engineers, including Dean Kamen, Bill Gates and Jack Welch, as one of the academy's 1,857 members.

``Andy's leadership has helped propel Delphi to its position as a pacesetter in research, development and advanced engineering,'' said J.T. Battenberg III, Delphi chairman, CEO and president. ``He is a role model for young engineers throughout Delphi and has been instrumental in our global engineering expansion. This is an extraordinary achievement for an extraordinary individual.''

As Delphi's director of engineering, Brown is responsible for coordinating common policies, practices, processes and performance across Delphi's more than 16,000-member technical community globally. Brown also serves as the president of Delphi Technologies, Inc., and together with Delphi's New Markets group is leveraging Delphi's intellectual property of patents and trademarks by licensing and developing new market opportunities.

Brown is currently a board member on the National Invention Hall of Fame, the Engineering Society of Detroit, the Convergence Education Foundation and the Convergence Technical Education Association. In addition, his automotive industry responsibilities include chairman of the SAE Technical Standards Board, and immediate past chairman of the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) Collaborative Engineering and Product Development Steering Committee. Most recently, he was vice-chairman of Convergence 2000. In March, he also will become a member of the SAE Board of Directors.

Brown has been a member or officer of the Society of Automotive Engineers, Society of Engineers and Applied Scientists, Michigan Society of Professional Engineers, National Council of Engineering Examiners, State of Michigan Board of Professional Engineers, Society of Manufacturing Engineering, and Wayne State University College of Engineering Alumni Society. In 1999, he was recognized as a Distinguished Alumnus and inducted into the Engineering Hall of Fame at Wayne State University. In 2001, his Delphi Research Labs team received the prestigious Automotive News' PACE Award.
