TERRY DALE JOINS TRANS-AM SERIES AS CHIEF STEWARD

CLEARWATER, Fla. (February 15, 2001) - Veteran motorsports official Terry Dale has joined the Trans-Am Series as Chief Steward and will assume his at-track duties beginning with the Trans-Am's season-opening Grand Prix of the Americas, April 5-6 on the streets of Miami, Fla.

In his new position, Dale will serve as the senior race official at all Trans-Am events, and will be responsible for administration of all competition-related issues. He joins the Trans-Am following four seasons (1998-2001) as Chief Steward of the Indy Lights championship sanctioned by Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART).

A native Canadian, Dale has also served as Chief Steward in the SCCA/CART Super Touring Championship (1996-97); the Michelin Enduroseries (1993-94), the Firestone Firehawk Championship (1992) and the Player's Ltd./GM Motorsport Series (1987, '89). He has held an FIA International Class A Race Steward's License since 1975, and served as Deputy Clerk of the Course for the FIA's annual Formula One event in Montreal from 1980-89.

"The addition of Terry Dale as Chief Steward strengthens the Trans-Am's continuing commitment to professionalism in the conduct of its events," said Trans-Am Series president Dennis Huth. "His qualifications are impeccable, and he will be firm, but fair in his dealings with our teams and drivers. His integrity and sense of fair play are qualities that will be a real asset to the entire Trans-Am Series."

For his part, Dale is excited to take on his new duties.

"It's going to be a great challenge," he says. "My style is to be very interactive with the mechanics, the drivers, the crew chiefs and the officials. I plan to be a very visible type of Chief Steward. I'll be very visible thoughout the paddock, working with all of our different groups to identify potential problems and get them solved so that we can get on with the business of racing."

The Trans-Am Series, sanctioned by Englewood, Colorado-based Sports Car Club of America Pro Racing, is the longest-running road racing series in North America, entering its 37th year of competition in 2002. Defending and three-time series champion Paul Gentilozzi will be looking to claim his fourth title against a strong field of rivals including Johnny Miller, Brian Simo, Tommy Archer and Rookie of the Year Justin Bell. Three of the Trans-Am's mid-season events will be televised nationally by CBS Sports. All Trans-Am drivers compete for the prestigious BFGoodrich Tires Cup, emblematic of the series title.
