AuthenTec Showcases EntrePad Sensor With TI's OMAP1510 Processor to Deliver Advanced Biometric Security on 2.5G and 3G Mobile Devices

MELBOURNE, Fla.--Feb. 13, 2002--AuthenTec Inc., the leader in advanced fingerprint sensor semiconductor products, announced today that it will demonstrate its next-generation, wireless security solutions at the Global Systems for Mobile Communications (GSM) Exhibition, GSM 2002 World Congress, Feb. 19-22, at Cannes, France, in Texas Instruments Incorporated's (TI) OMAPTM Developer Pavilion, located in Hall 4, K10.
The demonstration will illustrate AuthenTec's sensor interoperability technology running on TI's OMAP application processors for 2.5G and 3G mobile phones, wireless personal digital assistants (PDAs) and mobile Internet devices. This collaboration provides wireless device manufacturers with an easy way to reduce mobile device theft, eliminate passwords, deliver more secure e-commerce transactions and protect business and personal information.
"Authentec's sensor interoperability technology provides wireless device users with highly secure, yet convenient protection for their personal data," said Paul Werp, worldwide director of marketing for TI's OMAP platform. "By leveraging the OMAP1510 processor's high performance, low power functionality with Authentec's unique offering, consumers will enjoy a highly effective, low cost, easy-to-use, biometric solution on their 2.5G or 3G mobile Internet device."
The EntrePad AES3500, AuthenTec's low-power, small form-factor fingerprint identification sensor, utilizes the patented TruePrint(TM) technology, which looks past the easily obscured outer layer of the skin to the live layer below where the unique ridge and valley patterns of the finger originate. TruePrint uses a unique antenna array to detect a signal between the live layer of skin and the sensor that accurately mimics the unique fingerprint pattern. The EntrePad family of fingerprint sensors represents the first, full-fingerprint identification product family designed specifically for the unique technological needs of the portable wireless market.
"The application of biometric fingerprint technology is revolutionizing how we interact with everything around us," says Steve Mansfield, AuthenTec's Vice President of Marketing. "We are delighted to demonstrate user authenticated transmissions on TI's OMAP application processors, which will become the standard for next-generation mobile devices."
AuthenTec is a member of TI's OMAP Developer Network, a group of software developers writing wireless applications for mobile Internet devices. OMAP developers enjoy a variety of tools and support to enable rapid application development for leading operating systems and programming languages plus the opportunity to collaborate with a range of developers designing applications such as multimedia, security, location based services, mobile commerce and gaming. OMAP developers also benefit from TI's fully open OMAP platform, which has been selected by Nokia, Sony, Ericsson, Palm, Sendo, HTC and others for their 2.5 and 3G wireless devices.
