Guy Smith Will Race at Sebring

GUY SMITH CONFIRMED FOR SEBRING 12 HOUR

Following his sensational second place in the recent Rolex 24 at Daytona,
Briton Guy Smith has been confirmed to head the line-up in the Jim Matthews
Riley & Scott in next month’s opening round of the ALMS, the Sebring 12 hour
race. The 27 year-old from Hull, Yorkshire will drive the MkIIIC he used in
the Daytona race, but in accordance with the series’ regulations, the car
will run to IMSA/ALMS specifications.

“I’m delighted to be competing at Sebring as it’s a great event and I led
the race there last year until brake problems dropped us to fourth.
Following the success we had at Daytona, I feel confident of having another
strong finish although we’ll be looking for a win this time”, said Guy.

He added; “Throughout the Daytona event, we were consistently quick and
despite the few problems we had, we were able to put in a really strong run
and pushed the winning car right to the end. I’m sure Bill Riley and the
rest of the team will pull out all the stops to make sure we’re in with the
best possible chance of winning the event.”

This event will be the third time Guy has competed in the race, and
following the success in Daytona is looking for a victory as he again teams
up with the outfit with which he secured the runner-up spot in the classic
24-hour race.

The 50th annual 12 Hours of Sebring, America’s oldest sports car endurance
race, takes place at Sebring International Raceway on March 13-16 and has
attracted the world’s leading sportscar teams plus many of the famous cars
and drivers which has helped make Sebring a legendary name in motorsport.

The race will kick of the 2002 ALMS series with practice for all classes
starting on Wednesday March 13th and the 12-hour race will start at 10.30am
local time on Saturday March 16th.
