BRUMBAUGH SIGNS WITH AIM AUTOSPORT
BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. (February 8, 2002) – Andy Brumbaugh, of Blythewood, S.C.,
today announced he has signed with AIM Autosport to compete in the 2002
Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship. Brumbaugh will drive a Quicksilver
powered Van Diemen RF01 alongside Mark Wilkins in the two-car team from
Toronto.
Brumbaugh enters the Zetec Championship having captured the Canadian Formula
Ford Championship and Rookie of the Year award last year. The 17 year-old
became the first American and the youngest driver ever to win Canada’s
premier national open-wheel championship.
"I am very pleased to have Andy join our Formula Ford 2000 Zetec team for
2002," said AIM Autosport team manager Ian Willis. "I feel extremely
confident that we will continue to build on the success that Andy achieved
last year in winning the Canadian Formula Ford 1600 Championship. Andy has
proven that even as a rookie he is a race winner in a very competitive
environment, and I am certain that he will continue to show the form that
took him to the top last season."
In recognition of his accomplishments in the 2001 Canadian Formula Ford
Championship, Van Diemen will supply Brumbaugh with a car for the Zetec
Championship. For the second consecutive year Brumbaugh will be powered by a
Quicksilver RacEngines engine, with primary sponsorship coming from
Insulectro and EMX.
"It feels great to have three sponsors from last year return with me this
year, Insulectro, EMX, and Andy, LLC," said Brumbaugh. "I am also very
grateful to Jon Baytos and Van Diemen International for providing me with a
car to race in this year’s championship. I can’t wait to get the season
underway; it has been a long off-season! This is a great series with tough
competition and great events. I am confident we have the package to run up
front against anyone. I am also really looking forward to working with AIM,
Mark Wilkins, and Ian Willis, hopefully we will be a tough team to beat this
year."
