Philips Semiconductors First Non-Japanese Company to Receive ``Alpine Supplier Award''; Philips' Quality and Technological Strength Draw Alpine Praise
SAN JOSE, Calif.--Feb. 8, 2002--Philips Semiconductors, a division of Royal Philips Electronics (AEX:PHI), received the Alpine Supplier Award from Alpine Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan) President and CEO, Mr. Seizo Ishiguro. Philips was chosen for the award after an evaluation of all Alpine suppliers. This was the first time the Supplier of the Year Award has been given to a non-Japanese company. Philips is a supplier of Car DSP and tuner IC components for Alpine's range of car audio and car navigation equipment used by auto-manufacturers such as Daimler-Chrysler, Ford and BMW.Held annually since its inauguration in 1999, the Alpine Supplier Award is based on a points system using Alpine's own strict criteria for price, price competitiveness, cooperation, quality, warranty, delivery and technological development capability. The award is then given to the supplier with the best overall score. Philips rated highly in the areas of quality, delivery and technological development capability, making it the first foreign company ever to receive the prestigious Alpine Supplier Award.
The supplier award was officially presented to the president of Philips Japan, Mr. Herman G. de Haan, by Alpine president and CEO, Mr. Seizo Ishiguro. In giving the award, Mr. Ishiguro commented, "I look forward to further support from Philips to help Alpine's global growth." Drue S.
