GM Certified Used Vehicles Hits "Double-Double" Goal

2001 Sales Exceeded 100,000 Compared To 2000 Sales Of 30,000

DETROIT - Calendar year results showed tremendous growth for the General Motors Certified Used Vehicles brand according to Bill Lovejoy, Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing Vice President.

"It's been a banner year for our GM Certified Used Vehicle (CUV) brand. Our target was to double our sales to 60,000 by the end of 2001. Topping the 100,000 mark is more than we expected. We couldn't have achieved these strong results without the commitment from our dealers," Lovejoy said.

CUV growth is primarily attributed to an increase in dealer participation because of program changes. Early in the year, General Motors modified its enrollment fee for dealers, simplified the available warranties, added periodic financing incentives and launched an advertising campaign. GM's Certified Used Vehicle brand includes Chevrolet, Pontiac, GMC, Oldsmobile and Buick cars and trucks.

"With the strength and support of our dealer network, we plan to be the segment leader for certified used vehicles. We're committed to working with our dealers to market the entire lifecycle of our products," Lovejoy said. GM has enrolled 2,700 dealers to sell the Certified Used Vehicle brand.

Cadillac, Saab and Saturn have their own certified used programs, which also are targeted for growth above last year's combined sales of nearly 40,000 vehicles.

"Today's consumers have really embraced the purchase of a GM Certified Used Vehicle. It gives them peace of mind. And, our dealers have found these products to be profitable. In addition, growing the GM CUV business is critical to building residual values for our new cars and trucks," Lovejoy said.

GM Certified Used Vehicles are high quality, reconditioned, factory-backed vehicles available at participating General Motors dealers. All models are five years old or newer; have 60,000 miles or less; and are reconditioned to GM Certified Used Vehicle standards under GM's rigorous 100 point inspection and reconditioning process.
