FOR RELEASE: January 24, 2002

GM Awarded "Supplier of the Year"Encompass Services Corp. Impressed with Fleet Vehicle Services

DETROIT - For a second year in a row, General Motors won the "Supplier of the Year" award from Encompass Services Corp., Houston, the country's largest provider of facilities systems and services. Encompass operates a commercial fleet of 10,000 vehicles, mostly vans and pick-up trucks, and has sole sourced GM as its supplier through the 2004 model year because of the automaker's ability to provide superior products and innovative services.

"We have a great relationship with General Motors and access to senior management, which is very important to us," said Keith Kirk, chief procurement officer and vice president of purchasing for Encompass. "When you're purchasing about 1,400 vehicles a year that will run in your fleet for five or six years, your relationship with that supplier must be solid." Kirk cited GM's shorter and more reliable vehicle order-to-delivery times as a significant strength.

"GM has consistent on-time delivery. We put some challenges in front of them this year, and they were really responsive and acted quickly to meet our needs," Kirk said.

Dave Hansen, general manager, Fleet and Commercial Operations, Ernie Albers, the Houston fleet account executive, and Michael Grimaldi, previously vice president and general manager of sales, accepted the award on behalf of General Motors.

"Last year, we really focused on improving our ordering systems, service and customer support for all of our customers. This award from Encompass is proof that we're on the right track. GM offers high value products and services as well as competitive incentives. We're doing what it takes to earn our customer's business and we appreciate this recognition."
