Kansas City Chiefs and Chevrolet-We'll Be There
KANSAS CITY - Passing skills are essential to successful drives on the football field, but Kansas City Chiefs Coach Dick Vermeil's pass to a lucky Chiefs fan will leave the coach without a drive when the fan claims Coach Vermeil's Chevrolet Tahoe. Coach Vermeil will pass his Tahoe to a fan who won the coach's Chevrolet sport utility vehicle through an on-field promotion conducted during the 2001 NFL season. The Tahoe served as Coach Vermeil's personal vehicle throughout 2001, his first season with the Chiefs.
Stephanie Smith, a student at the University of Missouri, is the Chiefs fan who claims Coach Vermeil's Chevrolet Tahoe thanks to her on-field football skills with boyfriend and contest partner, Mathew Wright. Smith is from Leawood, KS, while Wright hails from Olathe, KS.
As semi-finalists in the Chevrolet competition, Smith and Wright participated in a pre-game contest beginning at the 50-yard-line. The team had to advance down the field by passing and within 60 seconds, attempt to make a touchdown. If time was still on the clock, the team had the chance to kick an extra point. During the Chiefs' home game against the San Diego Chargers in December, Smith and Wright competed against seven other pairs to win the ultimate grand prize, Coach Vermeil's Tahoe.
Chevrolet is proud to serve as the official vehicle of the Kansas City Chiefs. Throughout the 2001 season, Chiefs fans had the opportunity to check out Chevrolet vehicles in Chevy's "Coca-Cola 60 Second Touchdown Drive" contest. Chevrolet's Arrowhead Stadium display featured the Tahoe as well as other cars and trucks offered in Chevrolet's line-up of vehicles.
The Tahoe continues Chevrolet's tradition for providing the most dependable, longest-lasting trucks on the road. "Tahoe has the credentials for the full-size sport utility buyer who demands more power, more efficiency and more rugged off-road capability," explained Jay Allen, Regional Divisional Marketing Manager for Chevrolet. "We knew the Tahoe would be the perfect vehicle to drive Coach Vermeil through the season and make a terrific prize for a Chiefs fan."
