The National Grand Prix of Washington D.C., Names Official Media Partners
WRC-TV, ABC Radio Affiliates, Washington Post, and Newsweek Interactive Join
National Grand Prix Team
WASHINGTON, D.C., February 5, 2002 At a press conference held today at the
Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill, National Grand Prix Holdings, LLC announced
its official media partners for the July, 2002 National Grand Prix of
Washington, D.C.
The Washington Post will serve as the official print media sponsor, ABC
Radio¹s WMAL, WJZW and WRQX will be the official radio stations and local
NBC affiliate WRC-TV will be the official television station for the event.
The Washington Post will assist with the event¹s marketing and advertising
campaign by running in-paper advertising and promotions between February 6
and early July. In addition to the paper, Newsweek Interactive will also
partner with the race to provide on-line users the opportunity to attend the
race and learn more about the weekend¹s events.
WRC-TV will be the exclusive television source for information on the race.
Also beginning on February 6, WRC-TV and their website will be the place to
watch and go to learn about the National Grand Prix with on-air promotions
running over the coming months.
ABC Radio with their stable of popular stations, WJZW, WRQX and WMAL will be
the stations to listen to over the coming months. From driver interviews on
"Jack Diamond in the morning" to ticket promotions on Smooth Jazz 105.9 and
the chance to meet your favorite celebrities on WMAL; ABC Radio¹s three
powerful popular stations will provide radio listeners all of the
information leading up to race weekend.
The National Grand Prix, which is coming to the grounds of RFK Stadium July
19-21, will feature races of four sanctioning bodies; American Le Mans
(ALMS), Trans-Am, World Challenge and Star Mazda. It will be the first major
auto-racing event in the D.C. metropolitan area in more than 80 years. The
ALMS race will be televised live on NBC and CBS will air the Trans-Am race.
The corresponding three-day festival will feature a concert, world-record
breaking jump by Robbie Knievel, Lifestyle Expo and a celebrity match race.
