Bentley and Rebis Strategic Alignment Positions Companies to Lead Market in Overall Plant Design Software Revenues

    CALIFORNIA--Feb. 5, 2002--

Daratech expects new relationship to positively benefit virtually all EPC's and owners

Daratech's new overall-plant-design-revenue software vendor rankings announced last week at daratechPLANT 2002 in Houston specified that Bentley and Rebis respectively earned the #2 and #4 positions (in terms of market presence) for 2001.
Daratech also reported that Bentley and Rebis are forecasted to be among the top three overall plant design software sector firms in 2002-dollar growth. Per Daratech, Bentley was #1 in growth achieved in 2001 for the AEC (architecture/engineering/construction) market at large, as well as within plant design.
At daratechPLANT2002, Bentley and Rebis announced that Bentley has purchased a minority interest and entered into a strategic alignment. Autodesk, Inc. remains a Rebis shareholder, as well, and Rebis will continue to develop and maintain its AutoCAD(R)-based products and userbase.
"The new strategic alignment of Bentley and Rebis is an important development for the plant creation industry," said Charles Foundyller, CEO of Daratech. "Arguably, it will lead to interoperability of MicroStation(R)- and AutoCAD-based design seats, which -- counting all of Bentley's PlantSpace(R), content-management, server products and third-party MicroStation-based products, together with the Rebis AutoPLANT(R) series -- may well be the largest number of user seats among all plant-specific design applications. I look to this new relationship between Bentley and Rebis to coalesce the enormous and, today, frustratingly partitioned installed bases of DGN and DWG engineering applications and content."
"This has the potential to benefit virtually all EPCs and owner/operators, in particular to accelerate practical solutions for accessing and maintaining engineering content at the operating plants, which are often unwilling or unable to deploy specialist applications. The Bentley and Rebis alignment, aimed at fully exploiting and integrating the widely used MicroStation and AutoCAD mainstream design software platforms, will help ensure that valuable plant engineering content, rather than being isolated, will provide continual returns over the lifecycle of plant facilities," stated Foundyller.
At a luncheon during daratechPLANT 2002, Bentley CEO Greg Bentley and Rebis CEO Jeff Hollings told more than 300 end-user attendees that Rebis and Bentley have already begun work towards interoperable product ranges.
Joint Bentley and Rebis product demonstrations included the integration of Bentley's PlantSpace and the Rebis AutoPLANT Process and Instrumentation database. The two companies also demonstrated the use of a Rebis AutoPLANT 3D model within Bentley Enterprise Navigator(R), and referencing a native AutoPLANT 3D model within the PlantSpace 3D environment without translation.
