Honor For Parnelli Jones

Parnelli Jones To Receive
Eagle One-Shav Glick Award

Los Angeles, Calif., February 4, 2002 -- Parnelli Jones,
whose remarkable career as a race car driver and owner
made him one of the most recognizable names in motor
racing, has been chosen the winner of the third annual
Eagle One-Shav Glick Award.

The award, presented by the car-care products company,
honors the venerable motorsports writer of the Los Angeles
Times and is a symbol of distinguished achievement in motor
racing by a Californian. Previous winners were Dan Gurney
and NHRA founder Wally Parks.

Other nominees were: Rick Mears, Don Prudhomme, Les
Richter and the late Mickey Thompson. Judges were motor
racing writers and executives.

Jones will receive the award on April 28 at California Speedway
during trackside ceremonies prior to the NASCAR NAPA Auto
Parts 500.

His motor racing career, which began in 1952, includes more than
175 wins as a driver or car owner in virtually every classification of
auto racing. He won the Indy 500 in 1963 and owned the car driven
by Al Unser that won the race in 1970 and 1971. He also won the
NASCAR Motor Trend 500 at Riverside, Calif, in 1967. He
continues to drive in celebrity and vintage car races.

"From racing jalopies as a teenager in Torrance, Calif., to winning
the Indianapolis 500, Parnelli Jones is a living example of the American
rags-to-riches story," said Glick. "Although he won the 500 only once
he is still held in awe at the Speedway for his daring style of racing.
Today he is one of racing's revered senior citizens."
