Delphi Secures New Catalyst Business With DaimlerChrysler
TROY, Mich., Feb. 4 -- Delphi Automotive Systems today announced a multi-year contract with DaimlerChrysler to supply catalyst washcoats for future model year Dodge and Jeep® vehicles.
The contract makes Delphi one of the major catalyst suppliers for the Chrysler Group. Delphi's catalyst washcoat is designed to help these vehicles meet the 2004 Federal Tier II and California Low Emission Vehicle (LEV) regulations.
``Delphi is actively growing its emissions business in the key areas of exhaust after treatment and engine management systems,'' said Guy C. Hachey, vice president of Delphi Automotive Systems and president, Delphi Energy & Chassis Systems. ``Delphi is the only supplier to combine catalyst formulation and extensive engine management systems architecture expertise to help improve emissions.''
Before it leaves the tailpipe, engine exhaust gas is collected in the exhaust manifold and routed through a catalytic converter system. Catalytic converters make vehicles more environmentally friendly and help meet tailpipe emissions requirements. The catalyst, which is located in the catalytic converter, facilitates the chemical reactions that change the pollutants (primarily hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and oxides of nitrogen) into water vapor, carbon dioxide and nitrogen.
``Delphi's catalyst optimization techniques, as well as our expertise in catalyst modeling, including light-off and emissions performance, pressure drop, thermal characteristics and structural finite element analysis, allow us to provide quality and low cost integrated catalyst solutions,'' said Jeff Krause, Delphi Energy & Chassis Systems fuel handling & exhaust business line executive.
